Hi everyone,
I love Todd Parr's book 'The Family Book'.
It has a beautiful message of love and that there are lots of different types of families. Families that might not look like our own but are just as important and special.
Learning Ideas
Communication and Language
Talk about the different people in your family. Write a list of names together or print pictures.
What do you like doing with these special people? Talk about your extended family including, Aunties, Uncles, Cousins, etc.
Expressive Arts and Design
Make a Family Tree, draw or print pictures.
Maybe you can put it up in their bedroom when it’s completed.
Make some Salt-Dough like we did the other week and make some models of family members. Bake these and paint them. Could everyone in the family have their own mini-me figure?
How about making some shoe box homes from recycled materials? We made some chairs out of loo rolls, used old wallpaper to decorate the walls, stickers, raisin boxes for TVs/bed and fabric square. I really enjoy junk modelling with my class, we use so many craft and fine motor skills. Plus there are lots of opportunites to talk about who is important to them and the different members of their family.
Have a lovely week,
Big Fox
